It’s 2nd Year Anniversary Time!

Wow, I can’t believe how fast a year has gone by! I really don’t know where the time went, but here we are at the 2nd anniversary!

First, I’d like to say how much I appreciate all of you who have liked posts, left comments, and have subscribed! Thank you for continuing to follow my little blog!! I’m really glad I’ve been able to continue writing Appreciation Posts, I honestly didn’t think I’d be at it this long, and I’m glad to see you still enjoy reading them.

This year I have a few ideas and goals in mind for this blog. For example I’m going to crack open my “In Progress” folder and finish up some of the things I’ve started; try to post something other than just the Appreciation Posts. I have plans to start playing with photography and bringing some of the doodles I’ve been doing online and I hope to make more use of the various accounts I’ve started and have barely used so far.

Twitter –  If you’re on Twitter and would like to follow me, please do so @heartlivinglife
I’ll be honest, I don’t feel comfortable on Twitter. I have a hard time keeping under the character count and finding relevant things to say, and someone said that having more tweets than followers is like talking to an empty room, which made me feel rather self conscience about the whole thing…but I’m going to go and give it a proper try.

G+ –  If getting updates from my blog via G+ is better for you, then here you are. No new content, just another way for people to connect with me. c:

Youtube – While I don’t have the nerve to make my own videos, I plan on using Youtube playlists as a way to share things I find to be interesting or inspirational.

So, yeah, there should be some different things coming from me this year. Again thank you to all my followers and if you’re just stopping by for the first time; take a look around! And if you like what you see please subscribe!

Here’s to another year!

Liebster Award Nomination… again!

I’m honored to be nominated again for the Liebster Award! Thank you to The Things I’ve Made for nominating me.

The rules this time are a little different, the first few being easy enough to fulfill:

  • Link back to the person who nominated you
  • Display the award picture
  • Answer the 11 questions posed to you
  • Provide 11 random facts about yourself

Then there’s the bit I’m unable to do at the moment:  nominate 5-11 blogs with less than 1000 followers that I feel deserve the award, and ask them 11 new questions.

I haven’t read anyone’s blog in the last few weeks… at all. I’m far too busy with work, the course I was taking (just ended), renovations, Christmas preparations, and just being so exhausted that it takes extra effort just to log in to write my Appreciation Posts. I know, excuses, excuses… I’m horrible! I could just go out grab random blogs from the blogosphere, however, I would rather put the time and effort into picking blogs I really thought deserved it, so I’m not going to do that.

So, here’s the bit I can do.

The 11 Questions The Things I’ve Made has asked me:

1. What do enjoy most about blogging?
When my ideas/thoughts end up on “paper” the way I want them to.

2. Other than blogging, what is a favorite past time or hobby?

3. What is the best gift you ever received?

4. Diamonds or pearls?
I don’t know… pearls because I dislike diamonds? But I don’t know enough about pearl production… its probably a horrible process on clams or something isn’t it?

5. What time did you get up this morning?
My alarm went off at 7:10am and I didn’t drag my butt out till 7:37am

6. What is your favorite quote?
Right now its the Quote of the Month on my blog: “To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.” – E. E. Cummings

I am just so amazingly tired of people trying to make me into something I’m not or catching myself trying to be something I’m not.

7. Have you ever been to Disneyland?

8. If you could pick a superhero power, what would it be?
Telekinesis. I’d love to move things with my mind and then I could move myself off the ground and fly!

9. What is your favorite topic to write about?
Oh um… what if I don’t have one at the moment?

10. What is your favorite flower?
Ohh this is hard because all flowers are so pretty! Dahlias and cosmos and gazanias and pansies and daisies and sunflowers and I could go on and on and on

11. What is the last movie you watched?
In the theater: Thor 2. On TV The Help.
I’m going to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on Thursday! Weeeeeeeeeee

11 Random Facts about me
  1. The best dreams are the ones I’m flying in.
  2. I love bugs.
  3. Zombies are my favourite horror movie monster.
  4. I like my steak on the rare side.
  5. When I was 10 I left my stuffed bear by the river while we were on vacation and i forced my parents to go back and get it.
  6. I daydream about starting an animal shelter in my small town.
  7. I love watching birds fly.
  8. Sometimes, I get really sad about the way things ended between myself and my best friend in high school.
  9. I hate the texture of pears.
  10. I’m saving for an upright bass.
  11. The only thing stopping me from playing World of Warcraft again is the fact that I have no time for it.

Just Write

Once upon a time, I was writing a novel. That project has been put on hold due to time constraints… or a serious lack in confidence in my writing, whichever.

I did what every want-to-be novelist with a weak plot idea and zero self confidence does, research how to write a novel! The majority of the advice I found was, to be frank, crap.

Today, going through my backlog of emails and posts from the blogs I follow, I came across this: The Next Big Trend in Writing: Writing.. and it reminded me of a few things:

  1. I used to have an idea for a novel
  2. I still want to write that idea
  3. It doesn’t matter if I never get published, that’s not my goal.
  4. I should write it because I want to write it, and if it sucks, well then it sucks, at least I tried.

Time for me to pull out all my old drafts and research and give it another go.

Thanks, Eric.

Liebster Award Nomination

Brooke from The Lover List has nominated me a few weeks back for the Liebster Award. Thank you, Brooke! I’m sorry it has taken me so long to post this.

The rules of the Liebstre award are as follows:

  • Each nominee must link back to the person that nominated them.
  • Answer the 10 questions which are given to you by the nominator.
  • Nominate 10 other bloggers you like. Must have 200 followers or less.
  • Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer.
  • Let them know that they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them!

The first two were easy enough but, sadly, I can’t complete the next three right now. I haven’t spent a lot of time reading other peoples blog lately; I don’t know of 10 bloggers who have less than 200 followers so I can’t nominate anyone at the moment. I’ve already let this sit for too long, so I thought I’d go ahead and answer the questions. When I have some other blogs to nominate, I’ll come back to this.

My Answers to The Lover List ‘s Questions:

1. Which blog do you read every day? Why?
Every day? None. I don’t really have the time or energy to keep up with one specific blog.
I often check in on Whatever, a blog written by one of my favourite authors, John Scalzi.
I also enjoy John Finnemore immensely. Hes a writer, actor, comedian, genius and writes periodically in his blog, Forget What Did

2. Do you believe in love at first sight?
Errrr um. Maybe? Could be? I don’t want to rule it out.

3. I’ve worked in the travel industry for 15 years and love to travel. If money was no object, which part of the world would you travel to next?
Either on a trip with my best friend through Europe or to Poland with my family.

4. If you could choose any profession now, what would it be?
Time traveling consulting detective.
Entomologist, Etymologist, Linguist, Biologist, Vet, Writer, Painter.
The first one seems most realistic…

5. A movie is made about your life. Which Hollywood actress would play you?
Errrrrr…ummm… Amanda Tapping! Yeah!

6. Would you rather trade some intelligence for looks or looks for intelligence?
I’m happy with myself as I am. c:

7. I have two rescue dogs. Do you have a pet at home?
Two full time cats and one stray I may end up adopting.

8. If you could ask your future self one question what would it be?
How many languages do I speak?

9. If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature what new animal would you create?
Wolves and eagles??

10. Why did you start blogging?
To appreciate 3 things a day and to try to find a way to learn to love living life no matter what, and to try to share that with others.

Short Update!

A short while ago I hit 100 followers and I wanted to write a quick little post to thank you all for following this blog, especially since all I basically post at the moment are those Daily Appreciation Posts.  Reaching 100 Followers really surprised me.

I have every intention of writing something with more content to it. I’ve started several things… several, many things. It’s time I sit down and actually finished something.

Cue the excuses!

The last two months have been really busy and stressful for me. I’ve been studying for my Insurance Licence and getting more comfortable in my new job. I’ve had to do a fair bit of over time to meet some deadlines because we’re understaffed and have been so very busy. They keep telling me that it slows down a fair bit in the winter, so on the one hand I’m eagerly waiting for that to happen and on the other worried that when it does slow down and when the merger goes through (we’ve been bought out by another company) that I may lose my job.

Like I said, I have started things, but I haven’t had the time to sit down and finish them. Some of the topics I’ve started on I feel deserve to be researched more. I don’t want to just slap together an opinion on something just to make a post. I don’t make any money from this blog (obviously), so I don’t feel the need to throw things up to generate random traffic.

Also, when I come home from work, I’m usually so tired. I either take a nap right away or go to bed several hours earlier than I normally would. The doctors tell me that a person with my disease needs 10-12 hours of sleep. Well, I get about 8 or 9 if I nap after work.

Anyway, enough of that. I’ve been neglecting this blog lately. Tomorrow, I have the exam for my license. If I pass I’ll get all the time I spend studying back (until the next course I can take) and I hope to start applying some of that time back into this blog.

I honestly hope to be posting something more substantial sometime soon.

In the meantime, I hope you continue to enjoy my Daily Appreciation Posts and, hopefully, some of you may find some inspiration from them!

Ja, mata ne!

I want to take a moment to give a gigantic thank you to my best friend Kate!
She is amazingly talented and has been kind enough to create this wonderful layout for me.
I know working with a clueless client such as myself and within the constraints of WordPress wasn’t easy, but I love what she’s created; it makes me dance in my chair with joy!

So, thank you so much, Sweetie!!!

All Your Lane Are Belong to Us

My favourite place to think is in the shower.

I, like many others, shower on a regular basis and the routine is so engrained in my brain that I don’t have to think about doing each individual step. My brain is free to think without any distractions.  It’s wonderful.

I spent some time a little while back researching how to generate traffic to your blog and, somewhere in all the pages and pages of things I read, someone suggested finding the “lane” you want your blog to be in and then staying in your “lane”.

I thought about that a lot in the shower today. What is my blog about? What do I want to write about? What lane am I in?

The original idea I had for this blog was a place to write about living with chronic illness and the ways to stay positive. I wanted to write about really living life, not just muddling through, but really experiencing it, living it to the fullest, and appreciating it. However, there are so many things I want to write about, I wonder if those topics are consistent with my general idea, or would they be considered “changing lanes”?

Then I thought; do I really have to pick a lane? There are so many things I want to write about, why restrict myself to one idea?  When driving, there are reasons to change lanes all the time. If all lanes are on road ways and all roads lead to Rome… all topics are under the umbrella of Life, right?

Well, it can be argued either way. I’m sure building an audience around an idea or specific topic is a great way to generate traffic, especially if you’re trying to live off of blogging. But this is my blog and currently I’m not trying to make any money by writing here. This is just for fun. Maybe writing about apples one day and oranges the next will confuse some people. Maybe my subscriber-ship will continue to slowly creep along, and that’s okay with me. This isn’t a race to see who can get the most subscribers, the fastest.

Maybe eventually I will find a lane I am most comfortable in and stick to it.

Then again… maybe not.    c:
